How does RFID student tracking work?

Each student is assigned an RFID card or tag, integrated with the GPS bus tracking. The record follows student identification, bus identification, boarding, journey and drop-off, capturing the boarding time, drop-off time, bus number and route information. Do we have to use RFID?
